July 10, 1979

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh opens. The House could accommodate up to 10 families each night and was the seventh House to open in the country.

October 9, 1990

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Morgantown opens. The House can accommodate up to 16 families each night in single family sleeping rooms and has common areas for all guest families and day-guest families to enjoy.

September 1994

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh opens a second House. This House known as “the apartments” – was designed for families who needed to stay longer or be isolated from public places.

December 2000

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh partners with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to provide the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a 40-foot vehicle designed and built specifically for the delivery of pediatric health care. The state of the art vehicle brings vital medical services to underserved communities in Western Pennsylvania.

October 31, 2009

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh moves to its current location next to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, nearly tripling in size. The House can accommodate up to 74 families each night in one-bedroom apartments and has ample common area for families to enjoy while staying close to their child.

January 2, 2018

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Morgantown merge to create Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown. The new Charity will better serve the needs of pediatric patients and their families – across the region, throughout the nation, and around the world.

October 9, 2025

Ronald McDonald House Morgantown completes renovation and expansion. The House adds 11 rooms to accommodate up to 27 families each night.

May 20, 2026

Ronald McDonald House Charities Global transitions brand to Ronald McDonald House, increasing the understanding of its mission to support families during medical crises. Our chapter becomes Ronald McDonald House Pittsburgh Morgantown.
